Single kayaks for solo paddlers. Stable, easy to maneuver, and perfect for York's protected harbors and calm coastal waters.
Stand-up paddleboards for all skill levels. Great workout, great views. York's flat-water spots are ideal for beginners.
Our staff paddles these spots regularly — here's where we send our renters.
Protected, calm, and gorgeous. York Harbor is the perfect spot for beginner kayakers and paddleboarders. Lobster boats, sailboats, and sea birds all around.
A beautiful tidal river that winds through salt marshes and past old New England farms. Great for wildlife — herons, osprey, and seals are common sightings.
For paddlers who want more adventure — rocky coastlines, ocean views, and the famous Cape Neddick "Nubble" lighthouse visible from the water.
Make the most of your time on the water.
York's waterways are tidal. Paddling with the tide is much easier — we'll tell you the best launch times when you pick up your rental. Low tide exposes beautiful sandbars and mudflats too.
Early morning is the best time on the water — glassy conditions, wildlife activity, and fewer powerboats. Late afternoon can be magical too, especially in summer with the golden light.
Southern Maine summer afternoons can get windy. If you're new to paddling, aim for morning sessions and stick to sheltered waters like York Harbor and the river mouth.
Harbor seals are common around Cape Neddick. Great blue herons nest along the York River. Osprey, cormorants, and eider ducks are year-round residents. Keep your eyes open!
Everything you need to know before hitting the water.
No experience needed for calm-water paddling in York Harbor or the York River. Our staff will give you a quick orientation before you head out. For coastal paddling, some experience is helpful — we'll guide you to the right spot based on your skill level.
All rentals include a paddle and a properly fitted life jacket (PFD). We'll also point you toward the best put-ins and give you a local water conditions update before you leave the shop.
We'll give you directions to the closest public launch points from our shop. York Harbor, the York River, and Cape Neddick all have accessible launch areas within a short drive.
